UPL-2. Polissia – Dynamo – 3:2. Match report

In Matchday 9 of the UPL-2 championship, Dynamo Kyiv faced Zhytomyr’s Polissia away from home. The match took place at the Zhytomyr club’s training base in the village of Hlybochytsia.

Before the round, the White-Blues were second in the standings, three points behind Shakhtar, while the Wolves occupied sixth place, three points behind Dynamo.

Both teams started the match aggressively. Pavlo Cherednichenko’s side pressed actively and created the first chance of the game. In the 7th minute, Munhenhe cut into the penalty area from the right inside channel, beat a defender with a feint and aimed for the far corner, but the goalkeeper stretched out an arm to parry the ball behind for a corner. Five minutes later, a teammate sent Pierre through on goal, and the forward beat the goalkeeper with his shot, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside.

In the 15th minute, Pashko created a chance through individual skill. The midfielder controlled a long diagonal pass on the right flank near the byline, beat several opponents in a tight space and shot from an acute angle, but the goalkeeper saved with his foot. The hosts created their first opportunity in the 18th minute, when Emerllahu received a through ball and shot from inside the penalty area, but Olkhovyi made a confident save. Shepelev then tested the Dynamo goalkeeper with a long-range effort, while at the other end Munhenhe drove forward down the right and sent a low cross across the six-yard box, but Supriaha could not stretch far enough to make contact while sliding in.

Soon afterwards, Salenko met a cross from the right with a first-time effort from the centre of the penalty area, but the goalkeeper saved. Moments later, the Polissia keeper was again called into action by a long-range shot from Ozymaі. However, in the 36th minute, the visitors’ pressure paid off. Supriaha controlled a long pass on the right flank, advanced into the penalty area, moved slightly towards the centre and fired into the near corner, wrong-footing the goalkeeper to make it 0-1.

The White-Blues did not stop there and doubled their lead shortly afterwards. In the 41st minute, following a free-kick delivery from the right, the ball bounced around dangerously close to goal before Zakharchenko, sliding in, forced it over the line to make it 0-2. The teams went into the break with Dynamo enjoying a comfortable advantage.

During half-time, the hosts’ coaching staff made five substitutions in an attempt to turn the game around. Polissia emerged much more aggressively after the restart. In the 48th minute, Karaman struck a dangerous free-kick from around 30 metres, and Olkhovyi managed to save with some difficulty. The Polissia players also sent numerous balls into the penalty area, but Dynamo’s defence remained solid and prevented the hosts from seriously troubling their goalkeeper.

However, midway through the second half, the hosts levelled the score within three minutes, converting two penalties. In the 59th minute, the referee awarded a spot-kick for Ivaskiv’s foul on Kulmaliiev. Another penalty followed in the 62nd minute for D. Dykyi’s push on an opponent. Fedor converted both penalties confidently, sending the ball and Olkhovyi into opposite corners.

Boosted by their comeback, the Zhytomyr side continued to push forward, but Dynamo managed to move the game away from their own goal, and chances began to appear at the other end again. Lobko was particularly active, although neither of Vitalii’s two efforts from promising positions found the target. Supriaha also shot over from distance. In the 75th minute, Vladyslav met Rybak’s low cross with a first-time effort, but the goalkeeper produced an excellent diving save. Then, in the 86th minute, Lobko headed just wide of the post after a cross from a wide defender.

Ultimately, after failing to convert their chances, Dynamo conceded in stoppage time. Acha intercepted the ball in midfield and played Kulmaliiev through on goal, and the latter struck from the edge of the penalty area past Olkhovyi to make it 3-2.

Thus, despite leading by two goals at half-time, Dynamo suffered a defeat in Zhytomyr. Pavlo Cherednichenko’s side will play their next match on Saturday, October 24, when they host Kudrivka.
