Viacheslav Surkis: «We could and should have won by a bigger margin»

Viacheslav Surkis spoke to UPL-TV after Dynamo Kyiv’s 2:0 victory over FC Poltava, a match in which he made his first start for Dynamo’s senior team and kept a clean sheet.

— Congratulations on the win and the clean sheet. You had a strong performance today. What are your first impressions?

— They are positive because the team won. Of course, things can always be better — I think we could and should have won by a bigger margin. But thanks to the team for the game: we won and also kept a clean sheet. For me as a goalkeeper that’s the best thing possible.

— Experts in studio were discussing key moments from the match, and the most memorable one came near the end. Could you comment on it?

— There weren’t really any shots on our goal until final minutes but opponents kept running and trying to combine. Then that chance came near the end of the match and I knew something like that could happen. I didn’t try to guess, I acted the way we are taught — I stayed in position and played the ball. I think I have good reactions so I managed to react and save it with my foot.

— How was it playing with the central defensive pairing of Thiare and Bilovar?

— Everything was fine. We discussed everything before the match. During the game we also communicated, including with the help of a translator. Overall the communication was good.

— Ahead for Dynamo is probably the most important match of the season — the Ukrainian Cup final against Chernihiv. What is the mood in the team?

— The mood is fighting spirit only and we are focused solely on victory. Cup must come to Kyiv. We will give not 100 but 200 percent, and do everything possible to win the trophy!
