UEFA Youth League. Dynamo U19 – Hibernian U19 – 1:0. Match report

On Wednesday, November 26, Dynamo Kyiv continued their UEFA Youth League campaign. Ihor Kostiuk’s team played the first leg of the 3rd round of the “Champions Path” against their Scottish counterparts from Hibernian.

At the beginning of the match Redushko could have marked his return after suspension with a goal but Hibernian goalkeeper Mallon dealt with his shot. Soon after Bohdan fired a dangerous free kick, hitting the outer side of the net.

Dynamo players continued to control the ball and put pressure on the visitors. Ohorodnik fired from outside the penalty area but unsuccessfully. Liusin also headed the ball after a corner kick. Not long after Andreiko struck low from distance and Mellon collected the ball safely.

In the 30th minute Redushko received the ball inside the Hibernian penalty area after a defensive mistake and unleashed a powerful shot but it hit the back of a Scottish defender.

In the 35th minute Hibernian withstood Dynamo’s heavy pressure and launched a counterattack that could have ended in a goal. Surkis saved a close-range effort by McMurdo and the rebound fell to Clelland but he failed to head the ball into Dynamo’s empty net.

Soon after Surkis saved Dynamo again tipping away Buckley’s dangerous header after a corner. Dynamo responded with an overhead kick from Hrodzinskyi but the ball went wide.

Right after the break Hibernian had another chance. McMurdo slid in to shoot at Surkis’ goal but Dynamo keeper collected the ball without much trouble.

In one of Dynamo’s attacks Redushko had another good opportunity to open the scoring but his shot deflected off Gilley and went out for a corner. This set piece became decisive: Zakharchenko met Andreiko’s cross and volleyed the ball into Hibernian’s net, making it 1:0.

Dynamo continued attacking. Redushko kept pressuring Hibernian’s goal, firing at the near post but Mallon deflected the ball for another corner. In the 69th minute the Kyiv side could have doubled their lead – Liusin got into a promising shooting position but missed.

In the 78th minute hosts attacked in several waves but still couldn’t increase the lead. During this sequence Dekhtiar sustained an injury and had to leave the pitch replaced by Panimash.

The final whistle confirmed Dynamo’s 1:0 victory over Hibernian. Kyiv gained an advantage ahead of the return leg which will be played in Scotland on December 10.
