Andriy YARMOLENKO: “I hope this season we’ll win the domestic title”

- Andriy, what are your impressions of first friendlies? Do newcomers hit it off?

- I guess they are not newcomers as the come to the training camp every year. Anyway we try to help young players.

As for friendlies, we work a lot on tactics and toy to embody the head coach’s plans.

- The whole team congratulated Tsyhankov on his first goal for Dynamo. What did you tell him after the game?

- Everyone congratulated him after the match. It’s a dream of every young performer to score for FC Dynamo Kyiv when he is 16. Viktor is a very promising player. I hope he’ll keep this up.

- What do you think of the current training camp? Your teammates like the training process…

- As for me it’s better to work with the ball than just to run around the pitch. Actually we cover even longer distance working this way than we used to. I think it’s great as training sessions are interesting for players.

- Is the fact that you’ll start the new season with the match for trophy a good motivation for players?

- Sure, that match is important for us. We realize that we must be hundred per cent ready for the season.

- Don’t you think the team really banded together late in the last season?

- That’s true. When we featured against FC Shakhtar Donetsk we were a sole team. Not only players, but also coaching staff, doctors, massage therapists, administrators. I hope that next season we’ll win not only the Ukrainian Cup, but also domestic title.

- Only 14 teams will participate in the UPL next season. What do you think about that?
-
I think it’s bad. I also know that some teams will live in Kyiv or in Zaporizhia instead of their native cities. Anyway there’s nothing to be done about that. I hope everything will be fine soon.

- Doesn’t the situation in the country distract you from football?

- Of course it does. That’s our native land.

- Ultras do a lot to unify the country…

- What they do is really impressive. The situation in our country has unified the nation. It’s a pleasure to play when people at the stadium support each other. I hope it will be this way even when peace comes to Ukraine.

- In one of the friendlies you played as striker for some period of time. How was that for you?

- Actually I started my career as striker, so I guess it’s not a problem for me.

- The main claim to you is that you score headers rarely. Have you improved this aspect of your play?

- That’s my weakness. I try to work on that, but I can’t say that there’s some noticeable improvement. I realize that I must score more headers considering my height. It’s never too late to do something for self-perfecting. I’m only 24.

- Isn’t it sad for you to watch the World Cup considering that you were one step from it?

- I try not to think about that. The current contest is very interesting and unusual. Such teams as Italy, England and Spain have already tumbled out. There are many sensations.
