Beşiktaş – Dynamo – 1:0. Match report

Dynamo Kyiv suffered their first loss in the UEFA Europa League group stage, going down 0-1 to Beşiktaş JK at the İnönü Stadium in Istanbul on Thursday evening.

With defenders Taras Mykhalyk and Goran Popov injured and Oleh Husyev missing the match with a sudden fever, Yuriy Semin fielded Danilo Silva, Betão, Khacheridi and Yussuf at the back while Carlos Corrеa was selected to patrol the right flank.

Determined to secure all three points from the game and avenge their painful last-minute defeat on Matchday 3 in Kyiv two weeks ago, the hosts started very actively. They certainly showed the greater attacking intent in the first half, putting sustained pressure on the White-Blues area and forcing them to pull back to their goal. Hugo Almeida could have given his side the lead in the 11th minute, as he timed his run perfectly to meet a Roberto Hilbert cross, but his header flew past the far post. Oleksandr Shovkovskyy then rescued his team from a goal, fending away a Yevhen Khacheridi deflection from Ricardo Quaresma's searching ball. Dynamo keeper made several more good saves but could not prevent Egemen Korkmaz claiming the vital goal midway through the second half. The player, who by the way was celebrating his 29th birthday, surged into the area and headed in Simão’s corner from close range on 67 minutes to put his side second in Group E.

Stoke City beat Maccabi Tel-Aviv 2-1 in the other group game. Dynamo's next group stage match is against the Potters on Thursday, December 1st.
