Exactly four years ago the most tragic and difficult chapter in the history of the Ukrainian people and independent Ukraine began. On the morning of February 24, 2022, Ukrainians in every corner of the country woke up to explosions, gunfire and air raid sirens - Russia’s full-scale invasion had begun.
The enemy expected to end the war within a matter of days but failed to account for one crucial factor - the resilience of the Ukrainian people. In the face of grave danger Ukrainians united and stood up to defend their homeland. Some took up arm, while others worked tirelessly on the home front, supporting defenders in every possible way. In those first days the entire world admired the courage and bravery of Ukraine. It was unity that helped us withstand the initial and most difficult phase of the invasion.
Four years have passed - and the struggle continues. We remain steadfast in defending our freedom and independence. Everyone is doing their utmost in their own place contributing to the fight and bringing closer the day of victory and the return of peaceful life.
These four years have brought immense pain. Constant attacks, shelling, shattered destinies and devastated cities and villages. For 1,462 days we have lived under continuous stress. Yet the resistance and strength of spirit of Ukrainian people cannot be broken.
Throughout these 1,462 days of the great war we continue to admire the bravery and heroism of our soldiers. They met the enemy with weapons in their hands and continue to repel the aggressor every single day. At the same time we bow our heads in remembrance of those who gave the most precious gift for our future - their lives.
Our deepest gratitude goes to everyone defending our country on the front lines and to all who ensure its stability and resilience on the home front. Eternal memory to those whose lives were taken by this terrible war.
