It took him only a season in Basel-1893 to turn from promising midfielder into really good player with versatile talent. Anyway let’s start from the very beginning.
Started with home record
Derlis started his professional career when he was 15 and on December 9 2009 he made his debut for Paraguayan Primera side Rubio Ñu. Thus he became the youngest player of the club.
He scored his first goal at the age of 16. Gonzales hit the target as his team faced Trinidense and dedicated that shot to his mother.
After three seasons with Rubio Ñu (50 appearances, eight goals) young talent was signed by famous SL Benfica Lisbon.
Difficult challenge across the ocean and return home
It’s quite challenging for any Latin American player to move across the ocean not to speak of 17-year-old teenager. Derlis made only 12 appearances for Benfica reserve team. “It was difficult for me in Lisbon from psychological point of view, - recalls the halfback. – I was constantly depressed without my family, so I couldn’t focus on football”.
Soon her returned home and quite successfully performed for Guarani (15 goals in 33 macthes) and then for Olimpia. “I always dreamed of featuring for great club, - tells Gonzalez. – It’s like I got wings in Olimpia”.
What’s more important is that in 2013 Derlis reached the youth world cup final with Paraguayan youngsters.
Evolvement in care of Paulo Souza and Kyiv horizons
In May of 2014 Derlis signed five-year contract with Swiss side Basel-1893. The head coach of the team was Paulo Souza. The gaffer found the most effective way to use Gonzales. Paraguayan player performed on the right flank and helped his teammates attack as actively as possible. Eventually Basel won the domestic league while Derlis scored three goals in 24 matches. Even more significant were three goals he netted in the UEFA Champions League, especially against Real Madrid and Porto!
The season final was fantastic for Derlis as featuring for Paraguay national team he reached Copa America 2015 semifinal. On their way Paraguay outplayed Brazil and Gonzales scored the decisive penalty in the shootout.
In the semifinal they lost against Argentina. By the way, after the game against Brazil Derlis found out that his uncle Irrazabal Manuel passed away.
On July 30 Derlis Alberto González Galeano signed five-year contract with FC Dynamo Kyiv. After that talented halfback stated: “Dynamo are great club. I’ll do my best to become the first team regular. I’ll work hard for that. I’m right-footed player, but it won’t be a problem for me to feature on the left flank. Later coaches will define a perfect position for me”.
