Dynamo-2 got off to a winning start in their Commonwealth Cup opening game, recording a one-goal victory over Russia Under-21 reserve squad.
The Ukrainian club delegation arrived to the capital of Russia the day before the tournament. The public paid relatively little attention to the event and only several hundred of football fans came to see Group C matches. However, it didn’t prevent our team from making a good start to their tournament campaign. A 60th-minute header from Dynamo defender Oleh Dopilka helped Dynamo to secure a 1-0 win over Russia U-21 reserves and earn first points of the tournament.
Nonetheless, Dynamo-2 coach Yuriy Kalitvintsev was far from happy with the way his team played. After the match he admitted: “I am satisfied with the result but not with my players' performance. However, it’s only the start of the new football year. We know their potential and hope they will improve very quickly”.
In Saturday’s other Group C match, HTTU Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) was victorious over FC Levadia Tallinn (Estonia) 1:3. If Dynamo overcome the Estonians on Sunday, they will progress to the quarter-final.
