Dynamo – Karpaty – 2:0. Match report

Dynamo Kyiv beat Karpaty Lviv 2-0 in the Premier League Matchday 5 clash on Sunday to stay two points adrift of leaders Shakhtar Donetsk.

Dynamo players were really at a low ebb after UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of Russian side Rubin Kazan. However, their main task was to forget about this disappointing fact and focus on their next Premier League match against Karpaty. Fortunately, Yuriy Semin managed to find words of encouragement for his players.

Two of Yuriy Semin’s regulars –  goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskyy and defender Danilo Silva – were absent from the starting line-up this evening. Maksym Koval substituted injured No1 in the goal, while Oleh Husyev played at right back, being also effective in midfield and attack.

Both sides looked equally dangerous in the first half-hour with chances coming at either end. Eventually, it was Dynamo, who found the breakthrough, Andriy Shevchenko tapping in the loose ball after goalkeeper Andriy Tlumak spilled a long-range strike from Goran Popov. The visitors tried hard in search of an equaliser, but Maksym Koval made several excellent saves coming through his first match of the season with flying colours. Dynamo's second goal arrived midway through the second half when Ognjen Vukojević skilfully lobbed Roman Eremenko’s corner past Karpaty’s goalkeeper.
