Andriy Shevchenko celebrated his return to his native football club with a goal from the penalty spot as Valeriy Gazzaev’s side beat FC Metalurh Donetsk 3-1 on Monday.
The match against Metalurh provoked huge interest among football supporters after the most desirable transfer of Andriy Shevchenko from English club Chelsea FC to home country was completed. Not surprisingly, the stadium was packed with people waiting to see and welcome the Dynamo Kyiv legend. Their expectations were justified, when Andriy entered the pitch after the break. Moreover the player managed to mark his second debut for the capital club with a goal.
It was a memorable day for three more Dynamo players - Ukrainian midfielder Denys Harmash and two Brazilians Magrão and Leandro Almeida - as they were named in the starting line-up for the first time.
The Kyivers opened the scoring in the 38th minute, when Miloš Ninković picked up Milevskyy’s pass right behind the goal area. Although the opponents replied through Romanian striker Ciprian Tănasă soon after, Andriy Yarmolenko, who protected the left flank thoughout the match, managed to restore Dynamo's one-goal advantage before the break as he directed Magrão's corner kick into the net. In conclusion, Andriy Shevchenko made sure of victory deep into added time in front of his adoring fans.
Dynamo stay top of the table, with five victories and a draw from their six matches of the season.
