Dynamo Kyiv concluded their 2009/2010 Ukrainian Championship campaign on a winning note with a 3-0 victory against FC Metalurh Zaporizhya at the Lobanovskyy Dynamo stadium on Sunday.
Wednesday’s narrow loss to Shakhtar Donetsk, who took an unassailable six-point lead at the top of the table, ended Dynamo’s hopes of retaining their league title. However, despite having nothing to play for, the Kyivers started the game actively. Valeriy Gazzaev took the opportunity to experiment with his starting line-up and fielded reserve goalkeeper Denys Boyko, his namesake Denys Harmash and Vladyslav Kalitvintsev, with another promising youngster, Kyrylo Petrov, coming on as substitute in the second period.
Dynamo captain Artem Milevskyy scored the opener eleven minutes after the starting whistle and added another one 21 minutes later after a Kalitvintsev’s pass had found him just a few metres from goal. Having scored twice against Metalurh, Artem finished the season as the Premier League’s top scorer with 17 goals.
The third goal came on the 61 minutes, when Taras Mykhalyk forced Metalurh defender Serhiy Kryvtsov to make mistake and kick the ball in his own net. Although the season leaves a bitter aftertaste, this victory is a good present for Dynamo fans on Victory Day.
