Dynamo – Spartak: Match report

Dynamo Kyiv have reached the 2008/2009 UEFA Champions League group stage with an impressive 8-2 aggregate victory over former Soviet rivals FC Spartak Moskva. Now the club is looking forward to the draw to be held on Thursday, August 28, in Monaco.

Leading 4-1 from the first leg in Moscow, the home side started on the attack and were rewarded with an early goal.  Oleksandr Aliyev found a way through Spartak's defense and opened the scoring for the Ukrainian team with a powerful low strike in the fourth minute. The Kyivers went on to dominate the first half, doubling their advantage twenty minutes later when Milevskyy's right-wing cross was netted in by Bangoura. Despite leading 2:0, Dynamo kept up the pressure and created some other scoring chances but their attacks ended with missing the target

The visitors from Moscow rarely threatened the home team's lead but managed to secure a consolation goal two minutes after the interval. Ivan Saenko's pass found Artem Dzyuba who placed the ball beyond Bogush. However, Dynamo extended their emphatic advantage with strikes on 49 and 78 minutes. Milevskyy's double sealed a convincing victory for the hosts.
