Ukrainian champions FC Dynamo Kyiv won the curtain-raiser to the 2009/2010 season, the country's Super Cup, by overcoming FC Vorskla Poltava on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
Valeriy Gazzaev's side were without several key players but started the game strongly and created a string of chances. However, the capital team failed to break the resistance of their resolute opponents. Meantime, Vorskla demonstrated their attacking potential and threatened Shovkovskyy's goal again and again. After the 90 minutes finished goalless, the match was decided by a penalty shoot-out.
Both sides converted their first two penalties before Vorskla's Vladimir Despotovski saw his spot-kick saved by Dynamo goalkeeper and Armend Dallku's effort came back off the crossbar while all four Dynamo players were on target.
