Jeremain LENS: contemporary versatile attacking player

It has given the world many great football players, such as Aron Winter, Edgar Davids and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who presented perfectly their clubs and Netherlands national team.

Dynamo newcomer Jeremain Lens is one of such players. In August of 2010 he could hardly suppose that in a couple of years his career would be resumed in the country against the national team of which he played his first international game and scored his first goal for the Netherlands…

Uneasy way to football

Jeremain chose football being a kid. His uncle Sigi Lens was a professional player who finished his career after a terrible plane crash.

Lens’ football talent became noticeable as he was a child. After a short period he spent in FC Spartaan Jeremain joined FC Ajax football Academy. Still life is surprising sometimes. As Lens was 14 years old he was expelled from football school.

Eventually Jeremain transferred to Omniworld FC located in Almera which is 26 km away from Amsterdam. “It seemed that my career was over. It was hard, but I could imagine myself playing football only”.

On March 3 2006 Lens took the field for AZ.

Football whirlpools

In 2006/07 season the young player made 22 appearances for AZ (6 in euro cups).

The next season Lens started playing for N.E.C. (31 appearances, 9 goals, 4 assists). After that he returned to AZ.

In 2008 Jeremain broke his instep bone. As he recovered it happened again. “After the first fracture I insisted on operation which could help to avoid the backset, but later I broke the same bone again”…

The following year was a start for Jeremain’s successful career. He made 40 appearances for AZ (16 goals) and was signed by PSV Eindhoven,

Way to success

In PSV Lens proved to be a versatile attacking player. As a result he made 33 appearances for Eindhoven side during his first season in this team (10 goals, 15 assists).

Later Jeremain was spotted by the Netherlands national team coach Bert van Marvijk. He made his debut for the national side on August 11 2010 as Netherlands faced Ukraine in Donetsk (scored 1 goal).

Dick Advocaat who became PSV head coach in 2012 influenced Jeremain’s play positively.

That season he made 49 appearances for Eindhoven side (24 goals, 16 assists).

According to Ukrainian international player Yevhen Levchenko, who faced Lens on the pitch rater often, Jeremain is a very fast player.

A group of top European clubs was attracted by his talent. Still Lens decided to sign a 4-year contract with FC Dynamo Kyiv. “In Europe Dynamo are considered to be a stronger team than PSV Eindhoven or AFC Ajax. The transfer to Dynamo is a step forward for my career”.
