Ukraine’s Under-19 team have outplayed England, winning 2-0 to capture the UEFA European Under-19 Championship title on home soil. Goals five minutes into each half proved enough to become European champions in their age group in front of over 25,000 fans.
The match was preceded by a minute of silence in honour of Sir Bobby Robson, famous English footballer and coach who passed away on Friday. The England team and management also wore black armbands in his memory.
The two sides have already met in the group stage match which ended in a 2-2 draw thanks to double goalscorer Kyrylo Petrov. This time Ukraine’s starting line-up included six Dynamo players such as: defenders Dmytro Kushnirov, Temur Partsvaniya, Kyrylo Petrov, midfielders Denys Garmash, Serhiy Rybalka and striker Dmytro Korkishko.
In a tense match at the Olimpiyskyy stadium in Donetsk, Garmash gave the Yuriy Kalitvintsev's side a first-half lead after directing Korkishko's right-wing corner into the roof of the net, and Korkishko’s superb free-kick five minutes into the second half left English goalkeeper no chance.
