Fans grateful to Shatskikh

Ukrainian champions FC Dynamo Kyiv ended the 2008/2009 season on a high note with a 1-0 home victory against FC Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday. However, it was time to say good-bye to one of the team’s veterans. Dynamo forward Maksim Shatskikh, whose present contract with the title holders expires at the end of the current season, received an honourable send-off from fans and friends. Banners at the stadium thanked the striker for his fruitful work and contribution to the club’s success. Following the match Maksim was happy to spend time with the fans signing autographs and posing for pictures.

- Thank you so much! – said the player. – I think, every footballer can only dream of such support. Not everyone deserves it. That is why I’m very grateful to our fans. I hope, I’ve paid them back.

The 30-year-old wore the Dynamo shirt for the last time on Monday in the match between Dynamo and Shakhtar reserves. His 33-minute shot earned his side victory and moved his final total to 142 goals in 328 games over 10 years for the capital club.
