Koval on hand as Dynamo reach play-offs

FC Dynamo Kyiv booked their place in Friday's UEFA Champions League play-off draw by defeating Feyenoord 1-0 in Rotterdam and 3-1 on aggregate.

The tie was finely balanced heading into the second leg following the Ukrainian side's narrow win last week. The hosts dominated, but Dynamo's 19-year-old goalkeeper Maxym Koval proved unbeatable, and the in-form Ideye Brown sealed the Bilo-Syni's progress deep in added time with his sixth goal in as many games this term.

Predictably it was the trailing side on the front foot from the off, Koval having to be alert to push a Ruben Schaken effort on to the upright after five minutes. Schaken was frustrated again by the teenage stopper a little over ten minutes later, Koval equal to his header after right-back Daryl Janmaat had picked him out superbly. Not to be outdone, Feyenoord No1 Erwin Mulder then showed his reflexes to deny Brown.

Another golden chance fell Feyenoord's way after the break. A cross from the right again caused Dynamo difficulties, but Lex Immers' effort was somehow kept out by Koval. With Yuri Semin's team content to sit back and Feyenoord pushing for the breakthrough, the hosts controlled the second period, but they could not turn their dominance into a goal.

Then, six minutes into added time, with the game all but up for a frustrated Feyenoord, Brown rubbed salt into the wound. A neat one-two with Denys Garmash slipped the midfielder into the area, from where he fed the ball back for the charging Brown to slam it into the roof of the net.
