- I think our veterans have proved they’ve preserved their skills. They are still friends. I guess many of them are able to perform in Ukrainian and Georgian top leagues.
The game was a kind of exhibition. Victory didn’t matter and eventually friendship won. The match was also dedicated to players and org-men, who are already gone, but live in our hearts. My friend David Petraishvili – former vice president of Georgian Football Federation – was holding key positions in UEFA for years. He’s made a strong contribution into development of European football. I still can’t believe that Viktor Chanov, Andriy Husin, Andriy Bal and Valentyn Belkevych have already passed away. This game has proved people still remember and love them.
- Have you already talked to participants of the game?
- I’ve just left Ukraine locker-room and I’ll be happy to visit Georgians’ locker-room. During the opening ceremony I hugged people I love and respect – Kakha Kaladze, Georgi Demetradze, Levan Kobiashvili. I’ve been maintaining friendly relations with them for decades.
- What do you think of Ukrainian veterans’ physical conditions?
- One can learn a lot from them. Maybe they can’t play for 90 minutes like Premier League teams, but their physical conditions are okay.
