On October 12 East Germany league winners FC Wismut faced Petrolul Ploiești on Respublican Stadium of Khrushchev within the European Champions Cup preliminary stage. German side won the game by four goals to nil.
FC Dynamo Kyiv played their first game on European arena seven years later (September 8 1965 – win against Coleraine FC – 4:0).
