Centre backs Mykhailo Fomenko and Stefan Reshko were considered to be some of the best in Europe at that time. They opposed worthily forwards of the leading teams of the continent. We speak about 1974-1975 Cup Winners’ Cup with Mykhailo Fomenko.
- They often ask me who the leader of that Dynamo squad was. I can’t find the answerer as every player was a peculiar personality both on the field and in everyday life.
- You had great mutual understanding with Stefan Reshko. Were you friends?
- We respected each other and were mates. Still usually I spent free time together with Kolotov and Onyshchenko. Anyway the whole team stood one for all and all for one in any situation.
- Why weren’t following years as successful for Dynamo as 1975?
- Everything is relative. The following season we reached the Champions’ Cup quarterfinals and eleven Dynamo players finished third at the Olympic Games with USSR national team. A year after that we qualified for the Champions’ Cup semifinals. Still it was considered to be a bad result for 1975 squad. As for me, players and coaches lacked experience of long-lasting performances on top level. Fatigue and injuries also played their role. Anyway Dynamo achieved similar success only in 1986.
