Mircea Lucescu: “Finals are about winning, not playing”

- Trophies are very important. It’s a chance to show what players were doing throughout the year. It’s a grief, when you reach the final and lose it. Finals are about winning, not playing. In the first half the game was even, but after the break we dominated. We opposed really good team that finished third in the UPL and demonstrates decent spectacular football.

- What was the toughest point of the game?

- The episode when Mykolenko got injured. I was afraid our scheme would be ruined. Fortunately Karavayev did a good job. In this game I placed a bet on performers, who played in most matches this year. This is the reason I didn’t make substitutions. I knew guys are fit enough to play for 120 minutes.

- How is Mykolenko?

- I don’t know, opponent stepped on his hand. Vitaliy will be examined. I didn’t want to wait what he says and substituted him.

- Dynamo had a lot of chances in the second half. Do you agree players didn’t use them effectively enough?

- The final score doesn’t depict what was going on on the field. We dominated in the second half and extra time. We’ve won the Cup and I’m happy about it. It’s a very important trophy.

- Shall we see you in Dynamo next season?

- We’ve won the Ukrainian Cup, let us celebrate today. I’m satisfied with the way Dynamo played this year. The season was tough, but players trusted me. They were doing what I wanted them to. Since the first day, I was telling them I needed their minds, not their legs. What matters the most in football is readiness to throw your heart into it and respect gape principles. If you do that, you win trophies and enjoy the game.
