On Friday, May 8, in the 27th round of the National league U19, Dynamo Kyiv faced LNZ Cherkasy on away pitch. Before the match Dynamo had collected 64 points from 26 games and occupied second place in the standings while Cherkasy side had earned 40 points and sat eighth. The first-round meeting between teams earlier this season ended in a convincing 7:0 victory for White-Blues.
As the home side LNZ controlled possession more and tried to threaten Dynamo’s goal with crosses from flanks and set pieces. However the Kyiv side defended in an organized manner and launched quick counterattacks. At one point there was a nervous moment near Dynamo’s goal when two opposing players threatened Vyacheslav Surkis’s net during the same attack but fortunately for visitors the close-range efforts missed the target.
At the same time Dynamo struggled to create danger in attack during opening minutes, resulting in few chances near the opponent’s goal. But closer to the middle of the first half visitors managed to produce a successful attacking move. Lobko received the ball on the right side of the penalty area and fired an excellent shot from a tight angle past the goalkeeper, scoring his tenth goal of the current National league U19 season to make it 0:1.
After that visitors continued to control play in LNZ’s half, repeatedly threatening the hosts’ goal through various combinations. During one episode the ball flew just wide and on another the goalkeeper tipped it away for a corner kick. Toward the end of the half the referee had to stop play frequently because of fouls and both teams rarely created clear or potentially dangerous scoring chances. Notable moments included a shot from Liusin toward the near corner that was saved by Bakus as well as a header from Lobko that went over the bar after a cross from the right by Zhdanov. Teams therefore went into halftime with Dynamo holding a narrow lead.
At the beginning of the second half most of the action took place in midfield. The game came alive thanks to Hubenko who joined the attack effectively and made the most of his opportunity by placing a low shot into the far corner to double his team’s advantage – 0:2. Pashko could have made the score even bigger but Bakus dealt with his low effort, diving to gather the ball.
Overall Dynamo were much more active throughout the second half, constantly creating pressure near the opponent’s goal through low crosses, deliveries into the box from flanks and runs through the center. Nevertheless hosts did not simply sit back and also launched dangerous counterattacks. Nivinskyi came close to reducing the deficit after meeting a cross from deep with a header but Surkis brilliantly tipped the ball over the crossbar for a corner.
Late in the match Martyniuk came on as a substitute, making his debut for Dynamo U19. Martyniuk was born in 2010 and currently plays for the club’s U16 side in the Pro League of the National League of the Future. Shortly before the final whistle representatives of Dynamo’s U17 Academy team (players born in 2009), Kvikviniia and Solomchenko, also entered the game, although their debuts had come slightly earlier.
Meanwhile Chorr nearly scored, missing the ball by just a few centimeters as he attempted to connect with a low cross from the right flank. The match ended with two consecutive corners taken by Dynamo but hosts not only managed to clear the danger, they also launched a counterattack that almost resulted in a goal. In the final phase the Cherkasy side produced two shots on target in quick succession but Surkis saved the first while Solomchenko cleared the second effort off the goal line.
In the end it finished 2:0 – a confident victory for Dynamo U19, allowing White-Blues to continue their title race with Shakhtar. Dynamo’s next National league U19 match will take place next week. In Round 28 the team will host Kolos Kovalivka at home on Tuesday, May 12.
