That’s where the defending world champion Spain faced the previous Mundial runner-up – the Netherlands. It was a kind of repetition of the 2010 world contest final.

The game was one of the top fixtures of the group stage. 48,173 spectators were present at the stadium.

“Furia roha” opened the score as Xabi Alonso converted from the spot 27 minutes into the game. Still Robin van Persie netted the equalizer right before the break with a fabulous header. Daley Blind assisted him.

Early in the second half Arjen Robben sent Oranje up and 64 minutes into the game de Vrij scored the Netherlands third goal.

Still there was more to come. Robben and van Persie hit the target once again each and made the score 5:1.

FC Dynamo Kyiv forward Jeremain Lens made a substitute appearance 27 minutes into the match. It was his 23rd cap.
