History

On July 15 1848 Munich sports club was established, but later it was prohibited by government for political reasons.

The club was founded again on May 17 1860. The Lions’ football team was established almost 40 years later, on April 25 1899. Their first official game took place on July 27 1902. In 1926 the club got its own arena called Grünwalder Stadion.

Nowadays TSV 1860 München share Allianz Arena with Bayern.

In 1965 the Lions achieved their greatest success ever. They played in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final and lost against West Ham United FC. One year later they won Bundesliga.

Today 1860 München play in 2 Bundesliga.

A lot of famous performers used to feature for this team, such as Thomas Häßler, Abedi Pele, Rudi Völler, Davor Šuker (pictured), Jens Jeremies and others.

Head coach

1860 München started 2014/15 season under the charge of Dutch specialist Ricardo Moniz, but won only two matches out of eight and played in a draw three times. On September 24 2014 Markus von Ahlen (pictured) became the head coach.

He didn’t manage to change the situation for better at once. After 19 matchdays 1860 München are 15th in standings, which is one step from relegation zone.

Top players

Even though Bayern are one of the best teams in the world 1860 München have a lot of fans. Last season 42 thousand people attended their home matches on average!

This season Ahlen’s men have already netted 24 goals in 2 Bundesliga. Half of them were scored by Austrian striker Rubin Okotie (pictured).

Key goalkeeper of the team is 22-year-old Stefan Ortega Moreno. Best defenders are Christopher Schindler (team captain) and Gary Kagelmacher. Daniel Adlung is a good attacking midfielder.

In the previous friendly 1860 München defeated Scholz Grödig – 2:1. Valdet Rama scored brace.
