Ihor Surkis:
- Good afternoon. I’m ready to answer all your questions as for the season, which is already over. Unfortunately it was a failure for us. I bear responsibility for that.
I’ve told players that their new head coach is Serhiy Rebrov. They were really glad to hear that.
Serhiy Rebrov:
- It’s really a great responsibility. I’m thankful to Ihor Mykhailovych for trusting in me. I guess we all are dissatisfied with the outcome of the season despite the triumph in the Ukrainian Cup. We are to work a lot and realize that Dynamo must perform on higher level.
- Ihor Mykhailovych, what influenced your decision first of all – victory in the Ukrainian Cup final or changes for better in Dynamo play?
- First of all I want to mention that a lot of people reproach for me as I said that the next head coach after Oleh Blokhin would be a foreigner. I really did, but what really influenced my decision is that I saw rapid changes in the training process and in players’ attitude to tasks Serhiy Rebrov sets. Now our performers know what to do to achieve positive result.
In the first half of the Ukrainian Cup final Shakhtar didn’t unleash a single shot on Dynamo target. It means players featured the way FC Dynamo Kyiv must feature. In todays match players had no motivation, but they wanted to gladden Serhiy Rebrov and to go on holidays in good mood.
Today you all cans see that with a help of professional approach and dedication the team will reach the new level. Rebrov knows what kind of team it should be.
If he manages to explain players that everything he wants them to do will yield the result, then I’m sure that we’ll remember this day as the day of birth of new legendary coach.
- What will the term of the contract be?
- We’ll sign the contract tomorrow. It will be a three-year agreement. The main task for the new head coach is to win the title to qualify for the Champions League. If we finish second, but the progress will be really noticeable Serhiy Rebrov will have a chance to approve himself in qualifying rounds. If Dynamo don’t achieve these aims we’ll get a new head coach.
Last year I could fire Oleh Blokhin for finishing third, but taking into account his illness I decided to let him work on. I don’t want to state that he wasn’t doing his job properly, but for some reasons he didn’t manage to demonstrate worthy results. I believe that Serhiy Rebrov will make it.
- Serhiy Stanislavovych, will there be any changes in your coaching staff?
- We’ll discuss that with Ihor Mykhailovych tomorrow.
Ihor Surkis:
- I want to emphasize that assignment of assistant coaches is prerogative of the head coach.
- What is Dynamo task in Europa League?
Ihor Surkis:
- FC Dynamo Kyiv only task is to win. Still we must set goals in phases. We won’t have to go through qualifying rounds this year, so we’ll be on equal footing with FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
Two years ago we qualified for the Champions League, but later lost against PSG and against Shakhtar within the Ukrainian Cup. That devastated the team psychologically early in the season.
I hope that on the Europa League group stage we’ll improve our team play. We also must go through to the following stage. Serhiy Rebrov agrees with that. He’s told me that Dynamo can’t finish fourth in domestic league a priori.
- Will Serhiy Rebrov get a carte blanche for transfers?
- If Serhiy Rebrov tells me that we should sign this or that performer or let someone go we’ll do that. Still I wasn’t to mention that today the potential of the team is to be fulfilled.
Last season we signed all five players Oleh Blokhin wanted to see in Dynamo. Still it was necessary to help them adapt to the team, to explain what they should do on the pitch. I’m sure that next season Dynamo will be making headway.
- Serhiy Stanislavovych, when will the team start preparing for the new season?
- On June 17 we’ll have medical examination and two days later we’ll leave for the training camp. Internationals will join us later. Our first training camp will last till July 3 and second – till July 23.
- Will Olexandr Shovkovskyi resume his career?
- That’s the question for Ihor Mykhailovych. Olexandr demonstrated good play as we faced Shakhtar in the Cup final.
Ihor Surkis:
- I want to add that if Shovkovskyi has a desire to prolong his contract we’ll do it. He deserves that.
As for players, who perform for other teams on loan, we’ll see. Serhiy Rebrov has told me that he wants Rybalka to stay in Dynamo. We also have Liulka and Buialskyi, who feature for FC Hoverla Uzhhorod. Tremoulinas? AS Saint-Etienne have a right to sign him. Just like Freiburg have a right to sign Mehmedi for six million euro. If they don’t use this right till May 30 we’ll be happy to see such performer in our team.
- Serhiy Stanislavovych, what is the role of Raul Riancho in the team?
- His role is very important. He’s a very good specialist and I’m glad that he works for Dynamo.
Ihor Surkis:
- Last winter I was impressed when Serhiy Rebrov, who worked as assistant coach, called me and asked for a favour. He wanted to have a practical study at Manchester City FC and Borussia Dortmund training camps. I like this quality. He understands that it’s necessary to study. If Rebrov keeps this way, then I’m sure that he has great future.
