Serhiy Krakovskyy in favor of four regular goalkeepers

Nearly thirty years had passed before Serhiy Krakovskyy re-joined Dynamo this January, this time around in the capacity of a goalkeeper coach.

- I received the initial offer from Dynamo last year, but I had entered into a one-year contract with Russia’s Kuban Krasnodar and terminating it was no easy thing to do. Next, there was a brief spell with CSKA Kyiv. This fall I received a second offer to join Dynamo. My answer was positive.

- You played in many clubs. In your opinion, which academy brought you up?

- I learnt the basics in Dynamo, for instance, how to prepare for training sessions and games. More importantly, I became disciplined and conscientious. Then, I switched to Dnipro. The overwhelming majority of the clubs did not use to practice training targeted solely at this position. Things were different in Dnipropetrovsk, where Leonid Koltun worked with goalkeepers. I consider him to be my mentor. Football has definitely changed since then. Yet I still stick to the ABC of the knowledge he gave me and skills I developed.

- Some soccer pundits believe there can be only one regular first-team goalkeeper in the squad. Others insist two goalies should take turns featuring in games. Which view do you share?

- Dynamo should have four regular goalkeepers. With the club having four teams, everyone can obtain sufficient playing practice.

- You worked in Uralan with Taras Lutsenko. Do you think the team can still benefit from him?
- Taras is a genuine professional. He practices with youngsters on an equal footing. We should not focus on the age of Shovkovskyy and Lutsenko as long as they meet modern sports requirements.
