Players vie for the ball

FC Shakhtar Donetsk ruined Dynamo’s hopes of reaching the UEFA Cup final on Thursday after Ilsinho's 89th-minute strike secured a 2-1 semi-final second-leg win over the capital club.

Following a 1-1 first-leg draw in Kyiv, both teams had an equal chance to reach the UEFA Cup final. A seventeenth-minute strike from Brazilian midfielder Jadson gave Mircea Lucescu's men the lead before Dynamo’s Ismaël Bangoura levelled the score shortly after the interval with a right-footed volley into the corner. In the final minutes of the match, however, the opponents scored the decisive goal when Willian's diagonal pass found his compatriot Ilsinho, who then carried the ball past two Dynamo defender Badr El Kaddouri and midfielder Ayila Yussuf and finished low into the far corner - 2-1.

Thus, FC Shakhtar Donetsk has earned a historic UEFA Cup win and will play the final against German side Werder Bremen.
