The White-Blues conquered this last summit in spectacular manner.
Headlines of Swiss media peppered with compliments after the final. Kyivans came in full force in Europe. The match was broadcasted in 32 countries.
More that 200 journalists from all over the continent covered the game. “The legend according to which Dynamo players act like robots was buried at St. Jakob Stadium”, - wrote The Tribune.
La Suisse newspaper stated: “There was only one team on the field in this game. It demonstrated the play Switzerland saw long ago last time”.
Three days before the game atmosphere in the Basel International Hotel, where Dynamo were staying, was surprising.
Everyone looked really calm despite the fact that three leading players of our team had injuries – Muntian, Onyshchenko and Blokhin. Veremeev was suspended.
Still Blokhin and Onyshchenko were praised a lot by media after the match. Journalists didn’t mention their health problems at all as our coaching stuff didn’t tell them about that.
As the game started the White-Blues took the ball under control. When they were dispossessed they moved back and didn’t give Ferencvarosi TC space.
17 minutes into the match Blokhin found Onyshchenko inside the penalty area and the latter hit the target.
That goal demonstrated the balance of strength on the field very vividly. After it spectators at the stadium mostly started supporting our team.
The second goal was necessary and Onyshchenko scored it. He hit the upper V from outside the box – 2:0.
In the second half Blokhin performed a lot of solo efforts, midfielders Konkov, Troshkin and Muntian helped forwards, Buriak and Onyshchenko demonstrated great technical skills.
66 minutes into the game Blokhin eluded three Hungarian defenders and netted the ball – 3:0.
Ferencvarosi created only three or four chances in that match, but goalkeeper Rudakov and his teammates acted very confidently.
After the final whistle awarding ceremony took place. UEFA president Franchi gave tired Viktor Kolotov the big silver cup and a box with golden medal. It’s been 40 years since then, but names of players, who won the first European trophy for our club, will stay in Dynamo bright history forever!
