Ukraine (U-19) lose chance to defend their European title

Ukraine U-19 team failed to advance beyond the UEFA European Under-19 Championship elite round as they were held to a 1-1 draw by England on Monday, 31 May.

Knowing that only a two-goal win could have taken them into the next round, the Yellow-Blues put England under lots of pressure from starting minutes. Nonetheless, the breakthrough came in the 80th minute when Ukrainian forward Ihor Zubko beat English goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation. There was still enough time to score the second goal, but Dean Parrett's 83rd-minute equaliser strike secured first place in Group 3 and ended the holders' hopes of defending the title they had won on home soil last summer.

Ukraine (U-19) – England (U-19) – 1:1 (0:0).

Ukraine:
Levchenko, Polishchuk, Partsvaniya, Butko, Chaikovskyi (Sokurenko, 88), Sydorchuk, Zadoya, V.Koval (Zubko, 62), Morozenko, Kravchenko, Kozak (Kaskov, 46).

Goals:
Zubko (80) – Parrett (83).
