On Sunday, June 7, the Ukraine national team played a friendly match against Denmark. The game took place in Odense at Odense Stadium. It was the second match for the team under new head coach Andrea Maldera. As a reminder, in their previous friendly, the Blue-and-Yellows defeated Poland 2:0.
The hosts enjoyed more possession and attacking play in the opening minutes and took the lead in the 13th minute through Dorgu. Cutting inside from the right, he unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area to make it 1:0.
Ukraine struggled to create chances going forward, while another Danish attack soon produced a second goal. After a well-worked move, Høgh found himself in a shooting position. Trubin saved his initial effort, but Mæhle was first to the rebound and doubled Denmark’s advantage at 2:0.
Shortly before halftime, Ukraine produced an excellent attacking move. Mykolenko delivered a perfectly timed pass into the penalty area, and Yaremchuk looked set to score, but a defender prevented him from doing so. The ball then fell to Tsyhankov, who reduced the deficit to 2:1.
Deep into first-half stoppage time, Yaremchuk thought he had equalized when a deflection off a defender sent the ball into the net. However, the goal was ruled out for offside, and Denmark went into the break holding a narrow one-goal lead.
The opening stages of the second half produced few dangerous opportunities. In the 65th minute, with Dynamo players Volodymyr Brazhko and Mykola Shaparenko preparing to come on as substitutes, the match was halted after Christian Eriksen required medical attention. After doctors treated him on the field, it was decided not to resume the game, and the referee brought the match to an early end.
