After 2:3 defeat against the Netherlands, Andriy Shevchenko’s men faced North Macedonia.
Eight FC Dynamo Kyiv representatives took part in this game – goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan, defenders Olexandr Karavayev, Illia Zabarnyi, Vitaliy Mykolenko, halfbacks Mykola Shaparenko, Viktor Tsyhankov, Serhiy Sydorchuk and forward Artem Besedin.
Ukraine won the first half by two goals to nil. Andriy Yarmolenko opened the score in the 29th minute after cross by Ruslan Malinovskyi from the corner flag and backheel assist by Olexandr Karavayev.
5 minutes later Yarmolenko assisted Roman Yaremchuk, who made it 2:0 in one-on-one situation.
In the second half North Macedonia got much more active and pulled one back. Referee decided to award penalty as Karavayev allegedly fouled inside the box. Bushchan parried the shot by Alioski from the spot, but the player was the first to send it into the net afterwards – 2:1.
Later referee awarded penalty for Ukraine for the handball, but goalkeeper cleared Malinovskyi’s attempt.
Anyway it’s 2:1. Ukraine will play the final group stage game on June 21 – against Austria.
