It’s difficult to be the pioneer in something and show good results in it year by year. But the coach of goalkeepers in Dynamo Mykhaylo Mykhaylov proved that it’s possible.

Ascending

The young keeper was spotted by specialists when he was 17 and played for Zirka Kirovohrad. In 1979 the young player was invited to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. Despite his young age Mykhaylo played very confidently so in July 1980 he transferred to Dynamo Kyiv.

One month later he made his debut in the first team! At that time he was only 21! On August 21 1980 in Kyiv in match against Kairat he substituted Yuryi Romenskyi 15 minutes before the time.

Gradually Mykhaylov became the first team regular but when Victor Chanov came to Dynamo it became difficult for him to save his position.

Responsibility inspired…

1985 was Mykhaylov’s big time. He played in all 34 matches of USSR championship. That year Dynamo won golden medals, national Cup and Season Cup.

But in 1986 Chanov became the first team regular instead of Mykhaylov.

Valeryi Lobanovskyi said that Mykhaylo played more confidently when he knew that there was no substitution for him. Responsibility inspired him.

In 1988 Mykhaylov transferred to Neftchi, later he played for Shakhtar and finished his career in Apollon (Cyprus).

Pioneer

When he was 33 Mykhaylov came back to Kyiv. He made innovative proposal to former vice-president of Dynamo Oshenkov to establish a post of the coach of goalkeepers.

In 1993 Mykhaylov officially became pioneer it this direction. He also was a coach of keepers in Ukraine national team. He came back to Dynamo in 2010.
