Benjamin was born on November 27 1993 in the town of Celje, which is the third largest in Slovenia. He was totally fond of football, so it’s quite natural he joined NK Celje football school when a kid.
The youngster went through the youth system of the club and got a chance to approve himself in the first team. He made his debut for Celje in Slovenian top league on May 29 2011 – in the home game against NK Primorje. Celje lost that match – 2:3.
Direction of the club decided to let promising Benjamin feature on loan at first – for NK Sampion also based in Celje. Still Verbic made only three substitute appearances within 3,5 months. Despite that he returned to NK Celje and played 15 games for native club in the second part of the season.
On April 3 2012 Verbic scored his first goal for Celje in domestic league. That happened in home game against Olimpija, but his team lost 1:2.
By the way, in his first season in the first team Verbic could win the trophy with Celje, but they lost against NK Maribor in the national cup final on penalties. Benjamin made a substitute appearance 57 minutes into the game, managed to score, but then missed from the spot in the penalty shootout…
In 2012/2013 season Verbic became Celje first team regular. Generally he made 125 appearances for the team and scored 35 goals. 2014/2015 season was really successful for him and for the club. Celje became Slovenian league and national cup runners-up while the player scored 15 goals. He also got ten assists to his name. No wonder he was named the best player of the league that season and got the award.
The same season Benjamin joined another club. In April he signed a contract with FC Copenhagen. In Denmark Verbic also became the fist team regular, made 100 appearances for the team within 2,5 seasons and scored 22 goals. In 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons he became the Danish league winner and national cup holder.
Being Copenhagen player Benjamin was spotted by Slovenia national team coaches. On March 30 2015 he got the first cap to his name – in the friendly against Qatar. In 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign Verbic was featured for Slovenia regularly, made ten appearances and scored twice.
It should be also mentioned that Dynamo newcomer doesn’t suffer from injuries a lot. He’s never missed more than a month within six years in top level football.
In 2017 Benjamin became the fourth best Slovenian player and Copenhagen best player (according to Copenhagen Sundays).
As you can see, in Celje and Copenhagen it didn’t take Verbic a lot of time to become the first team regular and earn fans’ love. We hope his adaptation to Dynamo won’t last long either.
