The head coach of FC Dynamo Kyiv Ihor Kostiuk exclusively commented to the club’s media on the 2:1 victory over Polissya Zhytomyr in the 19th round of the Ukrainian Premier League.
“We analyzed the opponent and watched their matches. It was clear that Polissya physically slows down in the second half and we emphasized this during our preparation.
In the first half the game was balanced, neither team had an advantage or looked more dangerous in attack. In the second half we managed to completely take the initiative: we dominated on the field, controlled the ball, outplayed the opponent physically and created chances near their goal. I’m sure we could have scored more.
Our team clearly understood the game plan and our improvement after the break was not accidental. Certain game situations were practiced during training and in the end it brought results.
I’m satisfied with the score and with the fact that the team earned three points and continues the fight for top positions. Of course our game still doesn’t fully match the level we want to see but there is progress so we will continue working and improving.
At this stage the most important thing is that players understand our requirements and show motivation and desire to develop in order to achieve results. For our young players matches like this are very useful because they gain valuable experience of winning under pressure”.
