On Thursday, November 6, Dynamo Kyiv played their third match of the UEFA Conference League group stage in Lublin, Poland. The “White-Blues” faced the reigning champions of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Zrinjski Mostar – and claimed a spectacular 6:0 victory.
Zrinjski started the match actively, refusing to sit deep and instead pushing forward confidently. The Bosnian side had several promising chances early on. First Damașcan cut in from the left and fired wide, then Mykhavko made a crucial sliding block to deny Pranjić after a solo run and moments later Damașcan headed wide from a corner.
Dynamo weathered the early pressure, gradually moved the play away from their own goal and started creating chances. Mykhavko headed over the bar from a corner and soon Guerrero was inches away from finishing Ogundana’s low cross from the left.
Finally, in the 21st minute, the deadlock was broken. Buiаlskii delivered a corner from the left and Popov rose highest to head the ball into the net from close range – 1:0. It was Dynamo’s first goal in the main stage of the Conference League.
A few minutes later the score could have doubled. Dynamo launched a sharp attack: Mykhavko overlapped on the left and sent in a low cross to Buiаlskii who struck first time but sent the ball just over the bar. After that the game calmed down somewhat – Dynamo controlled possession but didn’t create many clear chances.
From the notable moments, Ogundana made a strong run down the left but then fouled his opponent while Pikhalonok attempted a volley after a flick from Mykhavko though he failed to connect properly. At the other end Pranjić’s shot from the edge of the box was blocked by Dynamo’s defense.
After break Zrinjski again tried to start actively but lacked sharpness in attack. Dynamo meanwhile quickly killed off any intrigue with a devastating spell of play.
In the 56th minute, after a foul on Voloshyn near the left flank, Buiаlskii took a quick free kick, finding Pikhaliok, who burst into the box and squared for Guerrero – the Panamanian striker tapped in from close range to make it 2:0. Just three minutes later Dynamo made it 3:0. Kabaiev won the ball deep in his half, dribbled past several opponents and unleashed a powerful shot from about 19 meters into the far corner, leaving the keeper helpless.
The Bosnian coach tried to refresh his side with substitutions but it didn’t help. Instead Dynamo struck again: a quick counterattack saw Kabaiev send a perfect through ball to Buiаlskii who dribbled past his marker and calmly beat the goalkeeper from 10 meters – 4:0.
Riding the wave, Dynamo kept pushing forward. In the 78th minute Shaparenko lifted a delicate pass into the box and Yarmolenko blasted the ball into the net with a volley – 5:0.
The final blow came in the 83rd minute. Shaparenko provided his second assist of the night delivering a corner from the left to the near post where Vladislav Blănuță headed the ball home – 6:0. It was the Romanian striker’s first goal for Dynamo.
Dynamo secured a confident and well-deserved win – their first victory in the Conference League main stage – and now return to Kyiv in great spirits ahead of their Ukrainian Premier League match against LNZ Cherkasy on Sunday, November 9.
