This club was founded 65 years ago. Though Ukrainian fans could watch Malaga featuring in the UEFA Champions League playoffs the Anchovies have few trophies. They won Segunda Division four times and Intertoto Cup once (2002).
New era started for Malaga CF in 2010 when Qatari businessman Al Thani became the owner of the club.
In 2011/12 season they finished fourth in La Liga and qualified for the Champions League.
Never the less such success didn’t impress Malaga president and he decided to reduce funding of the team which resulted in many leading players’ leave.
Never the less the Anchovies finished sixth in Primera and reached the Champions League quarterfinals.
At that time Malaga head coach was Manuel Pellegrini. He was replaced with Bernd Schuster (pictured).
In 2003/04 season this German specialist was in charge of FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
In 2011 FC Dynamo Kyiv made a contribution into Schuster’s dismissal as they defeated his Beşiktaş within the Europa League twice (1:8 on aggregate).
As for Mallaga current squad, representatives of three continents feature for Spanish side. Rather well-known are such performers as goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero, defender Jesus Gamez, halfback Ignacio Camacho, forwards Roque Santa Cruz (pictured) and Mounir El Hamdaoui.
In 2014 Ukrainian midfielder Olexandr Yakovenko signed loan agreement with Malaga. He has already scored one goal in La Liga.
At the moment Malaga are 16th in Primera standings with 24 points after 23 matchdays.
