Last season
After seven domestic league titles in a row, last season Piraeus side finished third, behind AEK and PAOK. European campaign wasn’t a success either. Olympiacos reached the Champions League group stage, but then lost five times and played in a draw only once (goal difference – 4:13).
New season
Olympiacos domestic league problems seem to continue. Pedro Martins, who took charge of the team last April can’t take the Anchovies to the leading position so far. At the moment the Red-Whites are nine points behind PAOK. In the previous game Olympiacos lost against them – 1:3.
On the other hand, the Europa League campaign is quite good for the team. Olympiacos got out of a tough group and left famous AC Milan behind.
Stadium
Olympiacos home arena is the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus which has the capacity of 32 115 seats.
The stadium was opened in far 1896 and used as bicycle track at the Olympic Games the same year. In 1964 it was reconstructed for the first time and in 2004 it was ruined and totally rebuilt.
Coach
Olympiacos head coach is a 48-year-old Portuguese specialist Pedro Martins. Before taking charge of Greek side he used to work only in Portugal. In 2017 he reached the Portuguese national cup final with humble Vitoria de Guimaraes. He’s faced Dynamo before. In 2014/15 season he worked for Rio Ave FC and lost against the White-Blues twice at the Europa League group stage (0:3 at home and 0:2 away).
Dynamo mark in Olympiacos history
In early 1990s Ukrainians Hennadiy Lytovchenko and Oleh Protasov, who performed for Dynamo before that, featured for Olympiacos,. Oleh Blokhin was their head coach. In 2002-2004 Protasov was the gaffer.
New meeting 44 years later
Dynamo and Olympiacos faced each other in the 1975/76 European Champions Cup round of 32. That time our team succeeded by playing in 2:2 draw away and winning 1:0 at home.
