The head coach of Dynamo answered journalists’ questions after the match against Karpaty.
– Under your management Dynamo has had difficulties against teams from the top part of the table – a hard-fought win over Polissya and today’s defeat to Karpaty. With a tough schedule ahead do you feel Dynamo will finish the season in the top three?
– What problems did we have in the match against Polissya? I believe we deserved to win that game and statistics confirm it. We had no problems.
– How difficult was it to rebalance the team after the international break and how much did it affect the result?
– Emotionally we failed the start of the match but then we recovered. We dominated and created chances but unfortunately we were not aggressive enough in the final phase today and couldn’t score our goals.
– A question about Matvii Ponomarenko’s goal – after watching the replay it seems there was no foul. Was this moment decisive in the game and should the goal have been disallowed?
– I believe it was a valid goal. The VAR referee should not have even reviewed this episode. We watched the replay – the goalkeeper lost control of the ball and Matvii kicked it out from under his hands. Even if there was contact Matvii touched the ball first and scored a legitimate goal. There was no need to use VAR at all. But the referee made that decision. He reviewed the moment in a static frame whereas such situations must be viewed dynamically to understand how the events unfolded.
