Ukraine national team leader made his first steps in tennis alongside the arena, where FC Dynamo Kyiv stars were shining brightly. Later Stakhovskyi left Ukraine. Today his residence is Slovakia. Still Serhiy doesn’t forget Kyiv as his parents and friends live here just as his favourite football team – Dynamo.
- Children usually get involved into this or that sport following famous personalities. Did you feel that when Kyivan Andriy Medvedev was one of the best tennis players in the world in 1990s?
- I followed only the end of his career. Of course having such exemplar you start believing in yourself. Ukrainian players realized that we aren’t worse than foreigners.
- Still football and Dynamo in particular were more popular. Did you ever want to try your hand at football?
- Frankly speaking I played street football a lot, but first of all I wanted to approve myself in tennis. It’s individual sport, where everything depends upon me. To achieve success in football one must be a bit lucky. It’s not always all in your hands.
- Would you like to see Ukrainian specialist or some famous guru in charge of Dynamo?
- It would have been interesting to follow someone like Mourinho or Guardiola as Dynamo head coach. Still it’s also great to see Serhiy Rebrov in charge of the team. That’s not only because I know him personally. Today the White-Blues demonstrate worthy play.
- A lot of players like tennis. Have you ever faced any of them on the court?
- I have. I played against Rebrov.
- What can you say about his play?
- He’s really surprised me. He’s fast and moves pretty well on the court.
