On Sunday, November 9, Dynamo Kyiv hosted LNZ Cherkasy at the Valeriy Lobanovskyi Stadium in the 12th round of the VBET Ukrainian Premier League.
The “White and Blues” entered the game in good spirits after a convincing midweek win over Zrinjski Mostar which was their first victory in the Conference League main stage.
As hosts Dynamo took control from the opening minutes, dominating possession and creating the first real threat early on. In the 3rd minute Voloshyn sent a dangerous cross from the right flank toward the near post where Pikhalonok connected but Kuzyk managed to block the shot.
The visitors deliberately conceded possession focusing instead on a compact defensive shape. Because of this Dynamo struggled to create clear scoring opportunities. After a Pikhalonok free kick from the left Karavaiev flicked the ball with his head but Mykhavko was just inches away from finishing at the far post. Later Kabaiev tried a low shot from outside the box but goalkeeper handled it comfortably.
In the 34th minute Dynamo were forced to make an early substitution – Andriy Yarmolenko left the pitch due to a calf muscle issue and was replaced by Eduardo Guerrero. Almost immediately Guerrero had a chance to score after a Mykhailenko cross but missed the target.
Just when it seemed the first half would end goalless LNZ launched a counterattack in added time. Obah’s strike was saved by Neshcheret but Pastukh followed up and curved the rebound in off the post – 0:1.
Dynamo again began aggressively after the break. Buialskii’s shot from the edge of the box missed narrowly and Kabaiev, cutting inside from the left, hit the side netting. In the 53rd minute, after a cross from the left, the referee awarded a penalty for a foul by Muravskyi on Popov but after VAR review the decision was overturned.
As time went on, the game grew more physical and referee handed out several yellow cards to cool tensions. In the final 15 minutes play was almost entirely in LNZ’s half but Dynamo still failed to produce clear chances. With LNZ defending deep hosts began trying long-range shots. Popov’s powerful strike from about 28 meters forced the keeper to parry awkwardly and a bit later Shaparenko played a one-two and shot from the edge of the box but missed wide.
Despite their pressure Dynamo couldn’t organize a final push strong enough to find an equalizer. The final whistle confirmed a minimal 0:1 defeat for the Kyiv side.
Following this match Ukrainian Premier League enters an international break. Dynamo’s next fixture will take place on November 22 when they travel to face Kolos Kovalivka.
