- Will the team be enforced in winter?
- So far we need to decide where we’ll have a training camp, considering the COVID-19. I need to meet the head coach and find out which positions he wants to enforce and who potential candidates are. I’m not talking about money right now. I’m talking about performers, who really can make our team stronger. Anyway, I think there’s no point having this conversation till the end of the first part of the season.
- Romanian media used to say that Mircea Lucescu can leave Dynamo in winter. How did you react to that?
- That was done on purpose. I don’t react to that. Lucescu wants to work. He works 24/7. He’s a coach, who’s achieved significant progress with players we have. We’ve won the Super Cup, we’ll feature in euro cups in spring and what matters the most we featured in the Champions League. Besides we’re domestic league leaders at the moment.
- Was there an episode in the game against Ferencvarosi that made you nervous?
- I don’t think so. I knew why we played carefully. Ferencvarosi needed to score, but they didn’t rush forward carelessly. There was no extraordinary danger. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to play more aggressive counterattacking football. But we’ve scored and won.
- Who offered you to hire Lucescu?
- Basically I had this idea for quite a while. When you want to sign new coach you have a lot of candidates. The point is that we didn’t know whether Lucescu would be willing to join us. He’s incredibly experienced professional. He can be compared only with Valeriy Lobanovskyi.
- What was the most surprising about Lucescu’s work?
- Only a true professional can talk about football 24/7 being his age. We offered him an apartment, but he refused as he wants to live at the training complex to get acquainted with the team and be closer to players.
We want to live as in Europe, but still think as soviets. For example Mourinho used to work with Manchester United, Chelsea and now he’s in charge of Tottenham. Professional coaches want to work and Mister rose to this challenge. After Shakhtar, he worked with other teams for four years and then spent two years without work. How could we miss this opportunity? He came and told me he would work with players we have and he doesn’t need anyone else.
- Is it true that Dynamo want to sign Shahab and Dragovic?
- We haven’t had any negotiations with these players.
