The White-Blues extended their lead at the top of the Ukrainian Premier League with a 2-0 victory against FC Metalist Kharkiv on Wednesday night. The Week 18 match, that also served as a dress rehearsal for the UEFA Round of 16 tie proved to be a thrilling and emotional encounter.
Dynamo made the perfect start at the Metalist stadium and on 17 minutes Oleksandr Aliyev’s low corner kick found Taras Mykhalyk, who turned the ball into Goryainov’s net. Early in the second half the home side were reduced to ten men when the Senegalese defender Papa Gueye was adjudged to have brought down Artem Kravets in a battle for a ball. With a one-man advantage, Dynamo increased their lead through Kravets in the 69th minute. Roman Eremenko’s pass from the right flank found the 19-year-old striker racing in behind the Metalist defence, and with Goryainov off his line Artem put the ball into the net. Metalist tried to find a consolation goal near the end, but their attempts were repelled by Bogush and by the well-organised visitors' defence.
Dynamo now lead the table on 46 points, nine ahead of second-placed Metalist. The pair will meet again in the first leg of the UEFA Cup last 16 on Thursday 12 March.
