MIGUEL: “Ukrainians have united in search of better future for their country”

The sun is shining, the White-Blues are on the way to their first domestic title within six years. Miguel arrives and our interview starts.

- How can one become a professional football player in a small own of Coimbra?
-
There’s some luck in career of every player. You just meet people that help you. I was spotted by Sporting. That let me make headway.

- Did you play basketball when a kid?

- I didn’t. I played only football.

- Who’s your idol?
-
LeBron James. I try not to miss his matches.

- How come basketball became your passion?
-
There’s a person that inspires me no matter what game he plays.

- Is that true that Benfica didn’t accept you because of overweight?

- I really had overweight, but I’m not sure it was the reason for Benfica rejection. Still I’m even thankful to this club for that as in Sporting everything was great.

- The weirdest story about you is as follows: Genoa president didn’t want you to date his daughter, so he let Dynamo sign you, but you took his daughter to Ukraine and married her.

- I’ve heard this story. If people want to think so that’s their right. Anyway I didn’t have any conflicts with Genoa president.

- Do they mostly consider Cristiano Ronaldo to be the best player in the world in Portugal?

- That’s right, but there are other opinions too. We stated our careers in Sporting together. Ronaldo is only a year older than me.

- What was young Ronaldo like?

- He was ambitious and hard-working. After training sessions he stayed on the field and worked on his own. Sometimes he trained even after dinner.

- Has Kyiv change since revolution?
-
I think people have changed. Ukrainians have united in search of better future for their country. As for the city, everything is fine here again.
