Croatian midfielder Ognjen Vukojević has been training with the Ukrainian team only for a week, but already has many friends among Dynamo footballers. Ognjen doesn’t understand our language. That is why Miloš Ninković, another Dynamo player from Serbia, agreed to help us with translation.
- Ognjen, what can you say about your national team performance in the 2008 European Championship?
- I think we proved that Croatia national team is very good. It’s sad that Turkish team defeated us in a quarter-final. But I consider this result to be a good stimulus for us in the future. Next time we have to reach the final.
- What was the team’s mood after this loss?
- It was a shock for us. Nobody could believe it. But we have to go ahead. Now our main goal is the World Cup qualification.
- Did you have a chance to take a vacation after Euro 2008?
- I had only 8 days off. That is why I can’t say that I had a rest. On the other hand I realize that footballers have to be ready for different kinds of difficulties. As we say: there is a price to be paid for it.
- You’ve joined the Dynamo footballers when they were already in Austria. How did your new partners meet you?
- Everything was great. Footballers and coaches met me very friendly. It’s hard to believe but I feel here like at home.
- You have already played several friendly games for Dynamo. What can you say about your new team’s scheme of playing?
- Dynamo Kyiv and Dynamo Zagreb use almost the same playing strategies. The only difference is that Ukrainian team uses only one defensive midfielder while the team from Zagreb has two. Anyway I don’t think there will be any problem with that. All Dynamo players are well-qualified.
- What do you expect from the upcoming season?
- I always did my best to achieve best results in Dynamo Zagreb. Without doubt I’ll continue doing it in Dynamo Kiev. I’d like to continue my football career in this club and I hope to win many trophies.
