On Wednesday, February 4, Dynamo Kyiv youth team played their first official match of 2026 – Round of 32 fixture of the 2025/26 UEFA Youth League. At this stage the team coached by Pavlo Cherednichenko faced Atletico Madrid who finished 7th out of 32 teams in the League Phase. Dynamo reached this round via Champions Path, overcoming Sweden’s Brommapojkarna (1:0 at home, 2:1 away) and Scotland’s Hibernian (1:0 at home, 1:1 away).
The match against Atletico was a home fixture for Dynamo and was played in Antalya, Turkey. Unfortunately the Kyiv side suffered a 2:6 defeat.
From the opening minutes Atletico, coached by Ángel Donato, enjoyed more possession. They also produced the first shot on goal which went just wide of the post. Dynamo were fortunate again shortly after when Esteban played Grant through on goal but his effort passed narrowly wide as well. Atletico earned several set pieces though none proved particularly dangerous.
Overall the Spanish side controlled early stages and in the 16th minute they took the lead. Barrios delivered a cross from the left and Esteban headed the ball into the net from close range to make it 0:1. Atletico continued to press actively and force turnovers. One dangerous free kick from just outside the penalty area nearly resulted in a second goal but Muñoz’s powerful strike hit the crossbar.
Dynamo tried to create chances of their own, yet struggled to get close to the opposition goal. After a long pass into the box by Andreiko Atletico defenders were first to the ball. Soon after the Spanish side doubled their advantage, once again from a set piece. Instead of shooting directly, Atletico played the free kick cleverly, allowing defender Gil to burst into the penalty area and finish from around 10 meters, sending the ball beyond the reach of Dynamo’s goalkeeper – 0:2.
Towards the end of the first half Redushko found the net for Dynamo but the goal was disallowed due to offside. Teams went into the break with Atletico holding a two-goal lead.
The second half began with a dangerous free kick for Dynamo after Domínguez fouled Hrodzinskyi just outside the penalty area. Redushko delivered the ball to Liusin but his header went wide. Shortly after Dynamo managed to reduce the deficit: Redushko showed great individual skill near the penalty area and fired a low shot into the corner to make it 1:2.
However Dynamo’s joy was short-lived. Just a few minutes later Atletico restored their two-goal advantage. Gros received a pass from Esteban, beat his defender and finished confidently from the center of the box – 1:3.
The Kyiv side continued to look for chances including from set pieces but corner kicks brought no reward. The game remained fast-paced and open with both teams attacking. Atletico, however, proved more clinical. Goalkeeper Piqueras launched a long ball into Dynamo’s penalty area where substitute Vinatea outplayed a defender and scored – 1:4. Minutes later Vinatea completed his brace after a pass from Rahado, firing low into the left corner – 1:5. Soon after Muñoz broke into the box and finished from close range to extend the lead further – 1:6.
In the closing minutes Dynamo pushed forward in search of another goal. Redushko and Andreiko both had opportunities, and Redushko eventually scored his second of the match converting from a free kick on his second attempt to set the final score.
Thus Dynamo U19 were defeated 2:6 and concluded their participation in the UEFA Youth League this season.
Dynamo U19 will play their next match in the Ukrainian Youth Championship on Thursday, February 19. In the 17th round Pavlo Cherednichenko’s team will host Rukh Lviv at home.
