Oleh Oshenkov was Dynamo head coach. The White-Blues had a team, which was able to set ambitious goals. Such players as Makarov, Holubev, Mykhalyna, Koman, Vinkovatov, Zazroev, Yust, Fomin etc, were well-known.
It was too difficult to compete against Moscow clubs in Soviet Top League, but Kyivans won the USSR Cup.
As for domestic league, Dynamo came fifth that season.
In 1954 the White-Blues played their first friendlies abroad.

In 1954 FC Dynamo Kyiv performers Stanislav Kochubynskyi, Viktor Yurkovskyi and Olexandr Boiko were born.
Defender Boiko joined Kyivans in 1973. He made his debut for the main squad on September 13 1975. From 1979 till 1982 he was the first team regular.
Olexandr’s son Denys is FC Dynamo Kyiv goalkeeper (currently featuring for FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on loan).
Memorable matches
In the USSR Cup final Kyivans faced FC Spartak Yerevan.
The game was very difficult, but Dynamo won by two goals to one.
