History
In 1978 football functionaries kept struggling against draws. Thus teams got points only for eight draws per season. It should be mentioned that Kyivans had nine that year.
Meanwhile the White-Blues were renewing their squad. Such performers as Troshkin, Matvienko and Muntian left the team, while Lozynskyi, Berezhnyi, Bessonov, Baltacha and Khapsalis joined it. Thus Dynamo didn’t demonstrate confident play at first.
As far as two main stadiums of the capital of Ukraine were being reconstructed, Kyivans featured at SCA arena and later even in Lviv and in Kharkiv.
Anyway Dynamo won the USSR Cup in 1978. In the gold-medal match they defeated FC Shakhtar Donetsk 2:1, besides the White-Blues finished second in the Soviet Top League.
As for euro cups, Valeriy Lobanovskyi’s men were outplayed by Malmö FF within the Champions Cup round of 16.

In 1978 FC Dynamo Kyiv performers Denys Onyshchenko, Olexandr Melashchenko and Goran Gavrancic were born.
Serbian defender joined Kyivans in 2001 and became first team regular almost at once. He is fourfold UPL and Ukrainian Cup winner and threefold Ukrainian Super Cup winner.
Memorable matches
Having outplayed FC Spartak Ryazan, FC Chornomorets Odesa, FC Zenit St.Petersburg and FC Torpedo Moscow within the USSR Cup Kyivans faced FC Shakhtar Donetsk in gold-medal match.
Dynamo won the game by two goals to one.
