- Was the Ukrainian Cup tournament the most difficult in Dynamo history this year?
- It’s been a long time since we won some trophy last time, so there were psychological difficulties. We won the Cup deservedly as our performers fought on the pitch and demonstrated worthy play. In the first half Shakhtar didn’t unleash a single shot on target.
- It seemed that Dynamo needed the Cup more than Shakhtar.
- Both sides needed the trophy. There can’t be too many wins. It was important for us to realize that it’s possible to defeat Shakhtar.
I’ve thanked players, but still the season was a failure for us.
- Rebrov confessed that he had unbelievable feelings when players tossed him. What did you feel at that moment?
- I thought that Rebrov deserved that. He proved that it’s possible to create a good atmosphere in the team within the short period of time.
- Do FC Shakhtar Donetsk remain your main competitor?
- Every team has ups and downs. Dynamo had two seasons of crisis.
- Was refereeing different in 2013/14 season?
- I want refereeing to be the way it was in the first half of the Cup final, but not like in the second. It was necessary to book Kucher immediately. That would have calmed everyone down. Anyway this season I have claims only to myself, coaching staff and team.
- What was Oleh Blokhin’s main mistake?
- I want him to tell about that himself. I guess he didn’t manage to form a sole team of performers he wanted to invite to Dynamo.
- It’s well-known that there were problems with interpretation.
- The coach told that foreign players didn’t understand him, but that’s not an excuse. We have enough interpreters. If you want to achieve good result maybe it’s necessary to study a foreign language and to work 24/7!
I don’t mean that Blokhin is a bad coach, but let’s make a summary. He didn’t create a team that believed in him.
- They say that Rezo Chokhonelidze informed Oleh Blokhin about his resignation.
- I told Rezo to ask Oleh Blokhin to hand in resignation to keep his front going, but Blokhin understood it differently and told that he was fired.
I realized that it was necessary to look for the new head coach when we stopped struggling for the title. We need a coach, who will deal with the strategy for the whole club.
- What kind of strategy do you mean?
- It’s a development strategy for all Dynamo teams including U-19 and U-21. Young performers must get chances to approve themselves.
- Why did you choose Serhiy Rebrov?
- We didn’t know that Rebrov would really improve Dynamo play and win the national cup, so I had negotiations with some coaches. Still Rebrov is not a magic wand. He has intelligence, speaks foreign languages and knows proper approach to players.
- When did you make your decision?
- Last Friday Mbokani came to my office and humbly told that group of foreign players (almost all of them) would like to keep working with Rebrov and his assistant coaches. That’s very important.
- What are Rebrov’s primary tasks?
- Dynamo must struggle for the title to qualify for the Champions League group stage. If we finish second, but go through to the group stage Rebrov will keep working. Otherwise he’ll leave without any recompense.
- Rebrov is a kind of mixture of Ukrainian and European coach…
- His best quality is that he wants to learn a lot. Rebrov had a practical training at ManchesterCity and Borussia Dortmund camps. He wants to make headway.
- Some say that it was a bad season for Yarmolenko.
- That’s because he is the leader of the team. He plays well when the whole team demonstrates good play.
- Mehmedi played on inside position, but that’s not actually for him…
- He had to play as centre forward! In that case he would have demonstrated better results as he does in Bundesliga. But if one makes a player perform on the position, which is not typical for him, there will be no good.
That makes people say that we sign wrong performers.
- Such talks always exist.
- We have really high profile players. Still if Bezus has lost the regular starting spot because of overweight that means that he much change his attitude to work. What actually happens? Players come to Kyiv, get good contracts, flats, get married and relax. That mustn’t be this way!
- Will Denys Boiko return to Dynamo?
- Why not? We haven’t got any transfer offers. I’ll also have a talk with Olexandr Shovkovskyi about his future.
